Paddlesport Leader
British Canoeing Paddlesport Leader Award
The paddlesport leader award will support and enable you to run safe and enjoyable journeys on sheltered water, for a range of mixed craft.
The Paddlesport Leader Award is open to all paddlers! The award supports your existing skills and enables you to lead fun, safe and enjoyable trips.
Where can a Paddlesport leader operate?
Benign, sheltered water. The overall ethos is that the group will be able to quickly and easily land, avoid hazards present and stay within the chosen safe working area. This may include trips on canals, ungraded sections of slow moving rivers, open water (e.g. lakes and lochs), small enclosed bays or harbours, defined beaches or slow moving estuaries, in conditions that are appropriate for the group but not more than 200m off-shore or in wind strengths exceeding Beaufort force 3.
There are no formal Personal Performance Award or Safety Award requirements to becoming a Paddlesport Leader. However, to get the best from your course you need to feel comfortable in or on your craft and be able to independently paddle on sheltered water.
We also recommend attending a Paddlesport Safety and Rescue course (FSRT) prior to training to get the most from your course, see here.
We run this course over two days.
