British Canoeing Canoe AWard

The Canoe Award provides the fundamental skills and techniques to paddle a canoe. Whether heading out on open water trips or heading down the river the canoe award will provide the knowledge and skills required to head out with confidence and provides an understanding of the environment you’ll be paddling.

The canoe award is just that, an award that gives you the understanding of what it is to be a canoeist.

This award is useful for those who want to confirm themselves as an effective member within a group or club.

We’ll help you develop your skill, judgment and decision making. We’ll help you to be confident in planning and undertaking canoe journeys on open water in winds up to force 3 and on grade 1 rivers with simple eddy lines.

We’ll focus on efficient paddle techniques to give you the skills to canoe on different environments. We can look at both solo and tandem skills.

This award is pitched at a similar level to the old 3*.

It is recommended that you have completed either the British Canoeing 'Discover' Paddle award or old 2* prior to attending this course.
